For many years the accompaniment for our hymn singing was provided using CDs recorded from our library of MP3 files. However, one of our members has designed and a built a digital hymn player that now allows easy access to all of the MP3 files stored on a single micro-SD memory card. Here are some photos of it:
The player is based on a hobbyist Arduino Uno computer stacked with an Adafruit “Music maker” MP3 shield. Interconnections with the front panel controls are shown in this wiring schematic The Arduino sketch is available on request.
The required hymn number is simply selected using the thumbwheel switches. Because we use two hymn books – Baptist Praise & Worship and Mission Praise – the player also allows the book being used to be selected. The red Error light illuminates if a hymn has been selected that is not in our library. The hymn is then started and stopped using the Play and Stop buttons.
